Meme & Named Numbers

Mathematics doesn't know them. The internet does.

Numbers famous for puns, subculture or memes rather than math: 520 ("I love you" in Chinese homophone), 666, 114514 (the Beast), 42 (the Answer), 1337 (leet), 80085 (calculator spelling), 9001 (It's over 9000!) — 20 exact values, plus two constant fragments: 31415 (π) and 27182 (e).

Number memes are humanity's shared side hustle. Chinese internet runs on homophones: 520 sounds like "I love you", 1314 is "forever", 88 is "bye-bye", 233 comes from a Mop emoticon and now means laughing out loud, 250 is a polite insult, 996 is the grind schedule. The English-speaking web runs on coincidence: 42 is the Answer in The Hitchhiker's Guide, 1337 is leetspeak, 80085 is the calculator prank, 9001 is "It's over 9000!", and 404 is the internet's most famous error. And 114514, from the Japanese "Beast" meme, is the reigning champion of Chinese number memes.

But in RNGdle, memes get no privilege. Our principle is "no artificial meme bonus": the ~399 EP that 114514 earns comes entirely from its true frequency of one in a million — it appears exactly once among 1,000,001 numbers, and -log₂(1/1000001) × 20 ≈ 399, not a point more, not a point less. The meme makes you smile; the rarity makes the score. Two separate ledgers.

The only exceptions are 31415 and 27182: they detect "contains a fragment of π/e" rather than an exact value, so each matches 20 numbers site-wide (31415, 131415, 314159…) and earns 312 EP apiece. Fragments are easier to hit than names — that's entropy being fair.

Bonus: some meme numbers are mathematically gifted too — 777 is a repdigit palindrome, 1314 has digit sum 9, and 42 appears in the Catalan sequence (1, 1, 2, 5, 14, 42…) and is the pronic 6×7. Meme and math sharing a one-in-a-million stage — that's the romance of this site.

Notable examples

114,514 The "Beast" meme, top dog of Chinese number memes. Appears exactly once site-wide — its 399 EP is pure rarity, zero courtesy points.
42 The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. Also a two-digit club member — location and meme buffs stacked.
1,337 LEET, the face of hacker speak: L→1, E→3, T→7. A number that spells its own subculture.
